The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act-2005), giving the fundamental right status under Article 19-1 of the Constitution, has been enacted by the Parliament and has come into force from 15 June, 2005. The Right to Information Act (RTI) was enacted “to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens” and replaces the erstwhile Freedom of Information Act, 2002. The Act provides the right to information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities that promotes transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority. All Universities and Colleges established by law made by the Parliament or by State Legislature or by the notification of appropriate Government authority or controlled or substantially financed directly or indirectly by funds provided by the Government shall come within the purview of Public Authority under this Act. As per Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal and UGC guidelines Tehatta Government College implements the Right to Information Act, 2005. Tehatta Government College has constituted the RTI Cell as per above Government norms & regulations.

In pursuance of the Right to Information Act 2005, an officer has been designated as Public Information Officer (PIO) and he/she shall perform the duties and responsibilities as envisaged under the act without fail. Necessary steps for implementation of various provisions including proactive disclosure of certain kinds of information. Such information shall be made available to the public at large through the website. Rates for obtaining copies, printouts, models, etc of documents are mentioned in the RTI Act.

Application Procedure

Citizens can seek information regarding the activities of Tehatta Government College, by submitting a written request with details like name, address, contact number and particulars of the information sought. The reason for seeking information need not be given. The duly signed request may be addressed to the State Public Information Officer, Tehatta Government College along with the required fee of Rs.10/-. Copies of documents will be charged according to the rate fixed by the State Information Commission, West Bengal. If the reply is not forthcoming within the prescribed time, or if the information is withheld, you can tender an appeal to the First Appellate Authority.

How to Apply
  1. The Application for obtaining information under section 6(1) of RTI Act 2005 must be accompanied by prescribed application fee in the form of IPO/DD etc., as applicable with the RTI Application.
  2. The application may be type-written or neatly hand-written wherein mention atop “Application under RTI Act 2005” (there is no prescribed proforma for application).
  3. Mention your question direct-point wise, avoid asking vague questions.
  4. At the end of the application make a declaration that you are an Indian citizen.
