Student' Facilities

Prizes and Scholarship

Full Free and half free Studentships are awarded by the Director of Public Instructions, West Bengal, to needy and deserving candidates on the recommendation of the Principal. In order to apply for free studentship, a student must apply through the Principal of the college in the prescribed format along with income certificates from competent authority. The college takes every care to process large number of scholarships funded by the Govt. of West Bengal, Union Govt. and various other agencies. Special mention must be made of the meticulous effort of our teaching and non-teaching staff because of which a large number of female students receive monetary support under the Kanyashri Prakalpa of the Govt. of West Bengal. Prizes are also awarded to the students on the basis of performance in the University examination and extracurricular activities. Seminar Library Despite being only a four-year old institution, the college has already started to enrich itself with books purchased from allocated government grants. Each department maintains a Seminar Library with the aim of providing easy access of books to students. Students can borrow these books with permission from the departmental teacher. The functioning of the seminar library is determined by the departments concerned.

Computer

Computer facility is available in all departments. Separate Computer lab is present at the Department of Mathematics. Broadband internet facility is available in all the departments.

Canteen

The college has a Canteen in the college premises where the students and staff of the college can buy fresh food at a reasonable rate.

Common Room Facilities

There is a separate Student’s Activity Centre in the College campus well equipped with separate Common Rooms for boys and girls with some indoor games facilities.

Guardian-Teacher Meeting

Meetings are organised to keep guardians apprised of the attendance, performance and development of their wards on a regular basis. The exact dates of the meetings are intimated beforehand. It also serves as a platform for the college administration to receive feedback necessary for the progress of the institution.

Students' Health Home

Students of this College are entitled to get the facilities of Students' Health Home (Krishnanagar Regional Centre). The college also organizes free health check up camp for students from time to time under the aegis of Students' Health Home.

Anti Ragging Cell

Ragging is strictly prohibited in the college as per UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 (under section 26(1)(g) of the UGC Act 1956). An Anti-Ragging Cell has been constituted according to UGC norms. It is also to be noted that during admission, students and their guardians are supposed to submit an anti ragging affidavit as directed by the Supreme Court. The college shall take strict action including cancellation of admission and criminal proceeding against those found guilty of ragging and/or of abetting ragging.

Career Counselling Cell

The college has an active Career Counseling Cell. The objective of the cell is to unfold the career opportunities of its students and to prepare them to face the challenging professional world. The cell regularly meets students of various departments and makes them aware of different opportunities available in their disciplines and beyond. Students can also approach the members of the cell individually for any kind of career guidance and for information of further studies after graduation. The cell is also planning to hold workshops on personality development and communication skills in the near future. The cell invites professionals from different streams to facilitate the students in choosing their career goals.

Grievance Redressal Cell

This Cell has been formed to look after the interest of students. Hence complaints and suggestions from the students may be sent to the college either by post or email. A complaint box has also been installed at the college main building. The college seeks not to disclose the identities of the concerned parties except necessary circumstances.

Internal Complaints Committee

The college pledges to maintain a zero-tolerance policy in cases of sexual harassment and an Internal Complaints Committee(ICC) has been set up with reference to the guidelines laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for prevention (through awareness) and redressal of Sexual Harassment. Games and Sports The Annual Athletic Meet of the college is organized with a lot of enthusiasm by all the staff and students in the college ground. Students also participate in the University Sports Meet.

Cultural Programme

Cultural programmes are held on the occasions of the Independence Day, Republic Day, College Foundation Day, Bhasa Divas, Women’s Day and Rabindra Jayanti. The college also organizes intra-class competitions in debate, extempore speech, creative writing, music, dance, poster designing, and quiz. The college has also introduced special lectures in various programmes organized by the college. So far two illuminating lectures on ‘Language and Identity in a Post-Colonial Federal State’ and ‘Rabindranath: Grahane o Barjane’ have been delivered.

College Magazine

The college brings out an annual magazine, Dhonodhanyo with an impressive collection of creative writings by its students, teachers and non-teaching staffs.

Seminars & Conferences

The college has recently organized a Two-Day National Conference on ‘Contemporary Issues on Natural and Anthropogenic Effect in Environmental Crisis’. Prof. Rita Ghosh, the Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Kalyani.

Eminent Resource Persons like Sudhir Chakravarty, Prof. Sugata Hazra, Prof. Kalyan Kumar Chattopadhyay, Prof. Parthasarathi Ghosh, Dr. Sankarkumar Nath, Prof. Niladri R. Chatterjee and Prof. Sumit Mukherjee delivered lectures on many relevant topics. Participants from different institutions across the country presented papers in the Conference. The college also holds Lectures from time to time.

Girls’ Hostel

A Hostel for female students belonging to Minority Community is underconstruction inside the college premises.

NSS Unit

Government General Degree College, Tehatta has an active NSS unit which functions under the guidance of a Program Officer with an advisory committee. Volunteers are involved in various social activities throughout the year.

National Service Scheme activities organised by the NSS unit of our college are as follows:

  1. Visit to Old Age Home
  2. Programme for developing sanitary consciousness among the residents of the adopted village, Khaspur
  3. Annual Health Camp
  4. Distribution of Saplings to the local schools of the village
  5. Safe Drive, Save Life Campaigning
  6. Campus Cleaning Drive and Programme for creating environmental awareness in college
  7. Survey in the locality regarding sanitation, hygiene, cleanliness and socio-economic status
  8. Seminar on the occasion of Women’s Day
  9. Visit to local Orphanage.

The NSS unit is looking forward to get involved in more social and cultural activities in the coming academic session.
